I ask them a question or two when they’re setting up, but it’s cut from the show. The bands don’t have to put up with my genius/annoyance. The comic says good night, I bring on the music. The comic, god bless them, usually responds with, “Huh?” Then I ask why they hate good art and they say, “Huh?” Then I get upset and begin reciting Sugar Ray lyrics and tell everyone they’re Smash Mouth lyrics and since I’m wearing a tie no one questions my sanity. Who does this help? In my mind, everyone. After performing stand up for 8-minutes I’ll have the performer sit down, compliment an aspect of their set and then ask them why America would be better if Smash Mouth played the National Anthem. A guy comes to the show and sells tamales from a cooler.įollowing the guest is the ‘comedy.” Comics on the show have to put up with odd questions about very mainstream topics at inappropriate times. I think I said something about being from Chicago so I’m perfect and everyone eat the tamales. Everyone laughed and no one learned anything.
So what did we talk about? The neighborhood where the Chicago Cubs play baseball. She doesn’t have children and works in a great rock and roll venue. For example, last week on the show I had a really cool theater person that’s producing a children’s television show as the lead guest.

I don’t know how to get that fascinating out without having a laugh (I’m actually using that phrase in my everyday speech and I have no idea why.). By hypothetically shooting at every target I’m actually freeing myself, the listener and the audience member from having to make difficult decisions on complex issues. I have no idea who I’m attacking but I think I know why. The last episode included horrible words about President Obama, Romney, Pearl Jam, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, drunk people, sober people, baseball fans, baseball players, misogynists, gay people, straight people and white people. Anyways, I talk myself and my show into confusion. I’m no longer sure if I’m saying horrible things to get a laugh or jeers. It’s like some horrible Warhol film that deserves grant money.
Now it’s some weird, character driven fuck-around that has no beginning or end. That morphed into riffs on current events. Then it became personal stories with some jokes.
